Missy Miner

Top of Her Class

Hi, my name is Missy Miner and I love my Pilates Reformer classes. I take three classes a week with Kathy-my teacher, and a bunch of wonderful friends that I met through my classes.

I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism when my son was 2 years old, so I have been dealing with that for 18 years. I was on the swim team in high school and knew that swimming was a great way to lose weight but the weight just would not come off. Then, when my daughter was a year old, I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was somewhere near 270 pounds and felt awful. I was tired and overweight, with two autoimmune diseases and two little kids.

Working out was the only way I knew how to help myself. The doctors had me on medication, but it was up to me to do the work. Therefore, for the past 18 years I have been swimming, going to spin class, either attending various classes, or walking. Losing the weight has not been easy. It has been an extremely slow process with lots of difficulties. It was not until I started Pilates that I felt like I had found something that not only helped my body but helped my mind also. I have been taking Pilates Reformer classes at West Hills for about 6 years. It all started because my IT band had gotten tight from all of the spinning classes I took. My legs hurt so bad I could not even lift them more than an inch. Pilates has taught me how to breathe, how to concentrate, and how to focus on the muscles and the movement of my body. I have lost somewhere near 70 pounds (I stay away from the scale), but I have gained so much confidence. I am still working on losing more weight and making more changes to my diet. I think everyone should take Pilates because it is so good for you. I love it so much and believe it so strongly that I even signed my daughter up to take a class with me next session.
