Becoming a member at West Hills Athletic Clubhas drastically changed my life for the better. The group fitness classes, the instructors and the members, have all played a dramatic role in my decision to live an active, healthier lifestyle.
My name is Courtney Arnold and my journey first began a little over a year ago when I got engaged to the love of my life. I wanted to improve my lifestyle and self-image. I wanted to go into our marriage giving him the best version of myself possible, which meant getting myself healthy inside and out.
I had been a member at other local gyms but they never felt like a good fit for the goals I wanted to achieve. I also couldn’t get my eating under control in a way that would complement my workouts. Even though I was working out, I didn’t feel motivated or see changes in my body. I was feeling discouraged and hopeless, like maybe I should just accept the fact that I won’t ever look “athletic” or “toned.” My sister was a member at West Hills and said I should join. I decided to go for a tour and was very excited that West Hills offered group fitness classes in hopes that would give me the motivation I was looking for.
I was a member at West Hills for about two months and going to the group fitness classes two days a week. I knew it was time to kick it up a notch if I wanted to make changes. I started going to classes more frequently, and seeing other members on a regular basis either in classes or on the fitness floor. I began telling them my goals and that I had to reach them in time for our wedding. I was given tremendous support and encouragement by the instructors and other members and this fueled me even more.
I made the decision to hire a personal trainer. This was huge for me because I knew she was going to push me out of my comfort zone and have me do things that I would have just stood back and watched others do. When I started training with Bridget Miller, I explained that I wanted to feel confident on my wedding day. I was terrified to look back at our wedding photos and feel embarrassed or ashamed about how I looked. Bridget not only helped me physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. The week before my wedding I beat my goal weight by three pounds losing a total of 26 pounds! I was seeing definition I didn’t even believe was possible. I was eating cleaner than I ever thought I could. The encouragement and motivation she gave me during our training sessions, in the fitness classes, as well as outside of the gym, is something I will always be extremely grateful and appreciative for. Bridget helped show me a new version of myself and what I am capable of doing with the body and mind that I have.
West Hills Athletic Club is not just an athletic club to me. It is a place where I can go to push myself. A place I can go and not only feel motivated but help motivate and inspire others. A place I am always reminded to never give up and to always keep setting new goals. My wedding helped start my journey, with the amazing support of my husband always reminding me that I can do anything I set my mind to. I will continue to set new goals for myself. I will continue to stay on track with my nutrition and live a healthy lifestyle. Thank you to all of the amazing instructors and members at West Hills. You all have impacted my life in more ways than you may know. We will continue to motivate and inspire each other, to push each other and to be proud of one another!
